Well lets get the ridiculous out of the way at the offset, Lady Ga Ga, sorry she was, and I was not the only one who thought this I calculate that around 70000 people agreed with me.
To the sublime, another festival for Will & Co this time in the historic town of Stamford, the Riverside is a great Festival, more family orientated than the Glastonburys of this world but they still cater for a crowd of over 15000. This was never going to be a walk in the park as for some obscure reason this part of Lincolnshire is a hot bed of Heavy Metal Fans, however if anyone could conquer them it was WATP, and conquer them they did, after a tentative start from the crowd you could see the glint in Will’s eyes and the challenge was lain down daring them not to love him… of course by song 3 they were completely hooked and there was no going back, it was dancing singing and the general celebration you get with great music and a little bit of alcohol added. Here I need to mention two young men who prior to the festival had the attitude “ we are metal mother we are not going to like your sissy mates” … well you are busted boys.. I saw you dancing.. I saw you singing you are well and truly outed as WATP fans… and its on film
Was great to get shots of the audience from back stage and overall it was a proper chilled out perfect day, just what you need after a stressful week as a traffic warden
(OK this will only mean something to a couple people) oh and no I AM NOT A TRAFFIC WARDEN !!!!!!!!!!!!
If Saturday was a proper chilled out day spent chatting and hanging with friends Sunday was the complete opposite… lots of stress of being in the queue although also with a great friend and wondering just where you will end up in the massive Wembley Stadium.. however several hours later we ended up just where we wanted to be .. front on the barrier .
What can I say about the supports,… I have seen Gary a few times and full respect to him for the way he has grown into his roll and he looks far more confident than he did last autumn but I will never get past the fact that he disrespected people I care about and that has coloured my opinion, but a great set and must have been emotional for him being home town gig.
Lady Ga Ga what can I say, on her videos and CD her music comes across really well but on stage it just did not seem to work with most of the crowd, and she really needs to ditch the Diva attitude.
The main attraction, well I have never professed to be a TT fan, but I would defy anyone not to be totally blown away by the great spectacle of this show… here are 4 guys who have come back from the Wastelands and grabbed all their stardom back with a professional aplomb that should make them very proud… they have stuck 2 fingers up at a derisive press and proved that they are the only band that could put on this type of big stadium show, and yes maybe it is getting close to the time when boy band dance routines will look ridiculous but for now they are in a league of their own, andI for one feel very privileged to have seen them
