Friday dawned grey and drizzling but who cares after a few hours work I was going to escape for 2 days of fun... actually it turned out to be one day of the best fun ever and one day of extreme hangover..................
For all the slating the rail system takes it go me there in a reasonable 4 hours and pretty relaxed which would not have been the case if I has driven the M6 on a Friday evening, a little anxious to find the hotel as I know the first band was gonna be on in about 30mins..
A question for you lovely people of Liverpool ,why do none of you have any knowledge of where you live? after asking several people directions I was about to give up when I spotted a group of young girls obviously out on a hen night... but no success and why they had to tell me they were not local but were from Wales I will never know, the accent gave it away.Anyway at last I found a native of Liverpool who gave me full and precise directions to the Travel Lodge although I was slightly surprised at the distance I was going to have cover to get there.. I looked back to thank him and then I saw it.. we were actually standing outside the Travel Lodge when he gave me these directions..!!
Rushed in put on a bit of slap ( waterproof mascara... this comment will only be relevant to a few people... luv ya David) , by then Katherine & Kelly arrived but I could not wait for them to get ready as I did want to miss The Aviators, if they had travelled all that way to play the least I could do was get there to see them.
Arrived at the Cavern just in time to catch their set which was great.. now anyone who reads my blogs will know I very seldom mention anything to detailed about the musical element of the night unless it particularly stands out and in this instance these guys did, it could have been a bit daunting playing the Cavern but you were fantastic.
Point 7 Pistol were once again excellent growing to like them more every time I see them ( must be my days of managing a heavy rock band makes me in tune with their sound), was sorry I scared Jimmy to death... truly mate I was not inviting you back to my hotel... you are just a little bit the wrong side of 40 for me lol and I suspect a certain young lady would not have been very pleased either.
I am not being rude by missing out the second support as they were great but pratt that I am I have actually forgotten their name, you were great guys possibly not my thing but that is no disrespect to your talent I am just one strange cookie... I think you may have been called "the barrow boys" if not hell I just made things worse really sorry.
To the main act.. what can I say about this bunch of talented guys... possibly nothing I have not said before... great to see you on your home turf...Liverpool obviously loves you and it was great to see such a good turn out, but I know it takes hard work to achieve this ,just because you are local does not guarantee you a crowd in a city buzzing with a billion things to do on a Friday night. You were great as always... David my being rude to you is just a sign of affection honestly I always take the piss out of people I like if I think they can take it, and of course you can , lets face it I would not travel to see you guys if I did not have respect for you all. Paul thank god the bar was shut cause judging by my hangover yesterday a drinking contest , however great the company, would have killed me.
A note about the nightlife in Liverpool.... never seen anything like it we hit a few clubs and as a people watcher I found them fascinating... obviously the closest they get to finess in asking a girl out is "are you single? how about it then", which I suspect is probably pretty much the same in most clubs in UK cities and obviously the beer goggles were out in force cause even I got propositioned... I am glad my polite refusal was understood even though a scouse accent and my Norfolk one are miles apart. ***** Off seems universally understood.
Sat was a long day waiting for trains and buses to get home but it was worth every minute cause its what life is about.. music fun and beer ( well actually I am never drinking again)
