The Feeling …. Belfast
Well this was going to be my last gig on a short but brilliant tour instigated by just a simple journey
along the M6 which nearly never happened… I truly never expected to get as totally wrapped up with these young guys as I did but it was obvious from that very first song I was totally smitten.
Over the past few weeks I verge between being so thankful that I had discovered them to being really mad at all the opportunities I had missed , however the main thing to me was I did discover them to which I am eternally thankful to my friend Katherine and I must apologise to her for not believing her when she said how brilliant they were.
It was a very early start on Tuesday to catch the 6am flight to Belfast which cost me the princely sum of £0.02 including taxes, a great deal but I know myself well enough to realise if the flight had been £200 I would still have been there such was the impact these guys had on me. It was great to meet up with Kay and Di at East Midlands and of course it was a great privilege to be in the presence of a radio star!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .Was a very short flight on which I managed to get told to keep quiet by the flight attendant … is she mad I am sure my tales of The Feeling where far more important than her safety speech, well to me they were anyway. Arriving at the Airport we hopped in a taxi to the hotel where all the gang were staying, except me that is, my late decision to go meant I was homeless, but of course loads of you great people offered me a crash pad which was brilliant and the hotel provided me with a great free breakfast although they did not know it.
It was then decision time, what do we do for the rest of the day before we went to venue, my gut instinct was saying queue, which was of course totally stupid at 10am in the morning so I listened to the sensible folks and we split in 2 groups half going on a bus tour whereas we just moseyed around the shops and also went on the Belfast equivalent of the London Eye, Kay could you please explain why as a person who hated heights you chose this option, I think you may have struggled on the top deck of the bus let alone swinging in a pod high over Belfast, however the resulting video was worth it, but it was a shame when the operator decided to stop after 7 revolutions !!!!!!!!!!
After this we just did a bit of shopping for essentials such as springy angels… glitter… and every other thing you need to wear to be inconspicuous………. It worked we got no strange looks at all, it was then time to head off to the venue to try and get me a ticket… no hotel.. no ticket… you would never believe I am a planner for a living… luckily they had plenty of tickets left…….. are you mad Belfast these guys deserved to sell this place 10 times over.
It is by now nearly 2pm and I am getting into a right state about not being at the venue I will readily admit I am totally daft when it comes to getting to venues early , I need training to stop doing this, so we relaxed and had a meal and a few drinks… well some of us relaxed but I suspect 2 of us were not really chilling, were we Becci?
So at last we headed off to the venue…. made our way to the doors to the hall and plastered them with
Signs saying our names and marking out spot……… oops sorry Dan we used photos of you but you still looked lovely even with our names all over you , unfortunately we were then told the queue would start outside however this is where the security became stars of the show, the main doorman let us wait inside and made sure we got in first leaving the rest of the crowd outside… lovely man he knew how much this gig meant to us.
So at last we were on that place we all strive for.. the front row… the support band were best described as dire.. sorry harsh but true… then along came those 5 people we had all made the effort for…. We had been concerned that Dan had not recovered from his bout of flu but full credit he gave it 110% when it was obvious he had been pretty sick… the sign of a true star… it was a brilliant gig, full of energy befitting the last leg of a great tour… highlights.. so many I may leave them to others , however the singing to the Santa Bear Becci launched at him was classic and he did promise to look after the very strange creature Mel gave him, that boy will be having nightmares if he keep that to close, it was the scariest creature ever
I thought I would feel sad that it was all over but I had such a brilliant time over the last few weeks that I was just really grateful to the guys and all my travelling companions for making this a very special time… special thanks to Dan for coming out to chat when he was obviously feeling under the weather, as I have said before I do judge a band by the way they regard and react to their core of dedicated fans and so far I could not fault them at all, of course everyone has off days but these guys do seem to put that aside when meeting fans which impresses me and I suspect means it would take something pretty tremendous to make me miss these guys again.
Right a thank you to my travelling companions and please forgive me if I miss anyone… I am new
Kay,Becci,Mel,Mel,Di,Ann & Darren and every one else I met on the day ( I know as soon as I post this I will go **** I forgot ****) you guys are also the stars as it makes it such fun, and to anyone who has not seen the guys ……… you must see them as they are” REALLY GREAT LIVE”
