The Script Oxford

The Script …………….. Oxford and beyond

Well I had seen these guys last week and although I was suitably impressed I did find it slightly off putting that the show was less than an hour, I appreciate that as a new band they will not have the material to fall back on that more established artists have but it was still slightly odd.

It would take a very special band to take over the spot that The Feeling have taken in my heart and to be honest although these guys have a great new album as a live band I realised a while ago that no one was going to come remotely close to Dan and the guys, however they were certainly worth another visit.

This time the venue in Oxford was slightly smaller but what it lacked in stature was certainly made up for by the enthusiasm of the audience, these young men have come a long way in a few short months and deservedly so as I cannot fault the quality of their material , maybe a slightly understated show but this could be more influenced by the recent shows I have seen, however all bands express their art in different ways so this in no way detracts from the enjoyment.

There were no surprises in the material, lets face it with a limited repertoire this was not going to be possible, however I came away from the gig knowing I had enjoyed myself and swiftly signing up for a few more gigs in the new year.

A few words about the support, at both gigs I had enjoyed Absent Elk, a good band genuinely nice guys and whoever Elk was I am sure he would have been happy to be there as the band were received very well by the enthusiastic audience. Bryn Cristopher, well he is totally not the genre of music I like as he was very get down and funky but I would be doing him a big disservice if I did not point out that in his particular field I am sure he is headed for stardom.

So thus ended a very busy few weeks of gigging for me with a few surprises along the way, new friends made particularly the great people I met whilst catching The Feeling, artists I really like popping up again such as James Morrison , Sam Beeton and Bryan Adams, new bands such as Scouting for Girls & James Blunt but the pride of place has to go to The Feeling who made me remember exactly what music should be about, fun and for being the nicest bunch of guys I have met.

So its time for a rest and save those pennies for what I hope will be another great year of gigs although I suspect the main attraction may be missing L
