What constitutes a great gig… I have long since given up on trying to figure out that one… the only thing I am sure of is it is not linked to the bands stature within the music industry.. the most humble of bands can turn in a stunning performance and by the same token a headline name can be dire… the one thing for certain the formula for a great gig is very complex.
Over the last few months watching Will and The People I can hand on heart say I have not seen a bad gig, yes some have been better than others but that will always be the case, I myself know that some days I turn in a stunning days work and others I am kind of going through the motions, not that I would suggest Will ever goes through the motions but with audience participation being such a big part of the gig other people have a big bearing on the final outcome.
I have been to gigs where to be honest the crowd was limited and whilst it must be very difficult to muster a lot of enthusiasm I can say that these have always produced a fair amount of good humour and the ability to laugh at oneself is essential. However last night at The Borderline once again the crowd were converted to the likable charm and great music of Will and The People… the set pretty much the same but I for one never get bored with these songs.
In a short space of time this Band has travelled a tremendous way and make no mistake it takes an awful lot of hard work both up front and behind the scenes to make this happen and with the beginning of great things the doubts, worries and strains can appear, once the euphoria of those first great gigs subsides it would be abnormal not to have a few doubts and worries but it’s the way with which we deal with these that sets us apart, luckily I think that Will has the backbone, unlike the salamander ( sorry never going to let you forget that Will) to weather what ever the industry throws at him as he appears to have a genuine belief in his ability to succeed ,I would only say do not change who you are too much as your uniqueness is what sets you apart from the crowd.. so keep the odd shoes… the trillion hats that is after all along with your talent what makes you so special.
As for the headline to this story … Haircuts…stick to the day job… High jump .. keep practicing… hysterical… well that’s what you make us feel .. all of you
