The SCript and beyond

It does not seem seven days since I set out on my mini tour of the UK, as it was my first real holiday in 18months you would think a week in the sun on a beach would be an attractive proposition.... no my idea of heaven was trudging through the snow...waiting on cold station platforms or outside concert venues... I suspect this is better as a summer passtime but the memories made along the way more than compensate for all the hardship.
Nothing really has to be added to my previous blogs about The Script, a more likeable bunch of guys would be hard to find, of course Danny is rediculously young and handsome and has obviouisly kissed the blarny stone on more than one occasion, and his perchant for red wine does make him a very interesting conversationlist , but along with Mark & Glen they are a formidable trio and it is refreshing that they are still close enough to the memories of being strugglinng musicians to be overwelmed by success,it will be brilliant if they keep the memories of early days close to their hearts and somehow I think they will manage to keep themselves pretty grounded even though it must be so tempting to believe you own PR at times. It would be remiss of me not to mention Bass player Ben , OK maybe not an original memember of the band but as with many session musicians a very intergral part of the gig.
The support bands on this tour have been excellent and as far removed from each other as you could get I suspect, in Gary Go you have an extremely talented guy with a fantastic voice , but in the nicest possible way I am left feeling that after the gig he rushes off to write a thesis or something of that ilk, and this is not an insult he just seems a very focused non party animal type guy and the meet and greet your fans would be the last thing he wants to do after a gig and this is not an indictation of his regard for people as I can vouch that he is a a very genuine guy he just doesn't party , of course he could have left the venues with 6 or 7 supermodels and partied until the early hours ;-)
Will and The People, where do I start on this one.... some people are born to be famous and I suspect Will is one of these people... he is like a loveable Pete Docherty without so many substances and a big bonus he has great talent.... its a big step up from playing to a few hundred people to several thousand , but Will and the guys stepped up to the mark and were in no way discredited , from the odd shoes to the interesting choice of hair style and attire this is a package heading for stardom without a doubt ,and he has the ability to party for all the rest of the venue put together. It can only hoped that they can keep the momentum going after this great boost of being on this tour , the difficult times are when you step back down to the smaller venues for a while but I suspect they have gained a legion of fans on this tour and will have no big problem with this... of course Will and the People would be nothing without those aformementioned people who are all talented people in their own right but as with most bands it is always going to be the front man who grabs the peoples imagination and hearts and takes the band on their journey towards fame and fortune.
So it's off to the Station at the end of this fantastic week and the things will be at the forefront of memories of this tour... the picture Will drew of me ( and explaining to my sons that no mother was not smoking a giant spliff , this was Will idea of a joke) sensible conversations with The guys about music and gigging and just getting the chance to meet and chat with different people, I would be sad but for the knowledge that in 3 weeks time I am off to see another favourite bunch of guys on the ski slopes of France :-) .It would be remiss of me not to also mention my gigging mate Kathryn without whom this would not be possible when my car threw a hissy fit before the start of the tour... no we are not stalkers... no we are not mad... but we are a pair of like minded people with a love of live music who always manage to be in the right place at the right time.... and I apolgise for making her cringe whilst I was giving Danny a bit of a verbal and physical violence at Wolverhampton... I think he loved it really lol
